about

Budhaditya Chattopadhyay is an Indian-born artist, researcher, writer and theorist. Chattopadhyay’s work questions the materiality, site-specificity and object-hood of sound, and addresses the aspects of contingency, contemplation, mindfulness and transcendence inherent in listening. His artistic practice intends to shift the emphasis from “object” to “situation” in the realm of sound. budhaditya.org

These two pieces are taken from Elements Songcycle - an ongoing series of uninterrupted and mostly unprocessed field recordings that employ multiple microphones at once capturing sounds from a particular site embedded with a spatial character and rich with elementary sound sources, such as water and the wind. These works search for hidden melodies and uncertain rhythms in the lived environment unfolding within a careful and attentive listening.
